This was the original Chestnut Lawn Cemetery. The plot map is the only written account of this part of the cemetery. There are no records.
As with the new cemetery, Ed Fink photographed the existing markers. Unlike the new cemetery, a majority of the existing markers here are illegible and or broken. Due to erosion, some have slipped over the edge of the ravine or are very close to doing so and cannot be recorded. The original shed now extends about 3 feet over the edge and will probably slip down to the railroad tracks within a year or so.
We have not finished the work there. Hopefully before the end of this summer we will be able to provide information for at least 100 more burials.
